I booked flights to STT on Delta, and looking to save a little money for Painkillers, booked a fare titled "Basic Economy"
This fare in non-refundable, non-changeable, and the seat assignments are given at checkin. Not too concerned about
refunds or changes, we do have travel insurance for a major issue, but I'm wondering if my wife and I might be sitting together?

There was an up-sell button before I pushed go on the reservation, and for an additional $50, we could have chosen seats at booking.

I've got a little buyers remorse, and wondered if anyone has bought these "Basic Economy" tickets, and what was your experience?

I would expect you and wife will not be sitting together and likely each in middle seat somewhere.

But please let us know the outcome.. Have never used this option, but always looking for more Painkillers!

I have used this option. It really depends on how booked the flight is. My son and I were not seated together and there was no moving it. It wasnt too concerning as he is a teenager and didn’t care. 😫😫 but if the flight isn’t booked my experience is the agents will work with you. But you are low man on the totem pole so you wait til the end. But $100 is a lot of painkillers so hopefully it’s worth it

The only problem I encountered using that rate option was that any carry on luggage had to fit under the seat in front of you. They were strict on that at the gate, checking the bag size and ticket code. They also refused people the 'free checked carry on' option often offered at the gate if they were basic rate.

Delta does not restrict carry on luggage for basic economy. The same rules apply as for any other ticket. American does restrict carry on for the like fare class.

We fly delta every time and use the basic economy. Have never really had any issue. Keep checking the change fees, as for this summer I was able to get next to my wife for 5 dollars a ticket. We usually pay the extra to pick our seats, and never get trip insurance. The only way we would cancel is if someone died, and then I'm not really worried about it anyway. Have fun, see you this summer.

I'd like to be a jelly fish, cause jelly fish don't pay rent.

We booked this fare on Delta twice back in November 2018. Trips were for Jan 2019 and April 2019 and both times we were immediately given seats together at time of booking. We are traveling with a 2 and 4 year old. Maybe that’s why???

I booked basic economy last month. They let me check my "heavy carryon bag" at the gate for free on the outbound trip. Seat assignment was made prior to my arrival (same day) and not at the ticket counter. However, the counter agents were happy to switch with me for free if economy seats were available. And, once the airplane door closed > all empty seats were fair game except Delta comfort or first class. I think its a great deal if you can do it all with a carry on.
