I forgot to mention the rental car. Some of you may remember my desperate plea to Alain at AAA the night before our trip. I had communicated with him, but never actually confirmed the reservation. So not only did we not have a hotel reservation, but neither did we have a car reservation.

Mike wanted to rent a car from the vendors at the airport. On a hunch based on posts here, I asked him to wait. Within minutes, Myra was there with our car. Talk about service! I had faith she'd have a car, she had faith I'd show up. She walked around the car with us, brushed off a few scratches and dents with a casual "No big deal" and we were on our way. $120/week for a Toyota Corolla, unlimited mileage, automatic with AC.

First timers take note of the island's laid back attitude. No one rushes (except when they are driving.)

CUPECOY BEACH: Similar to Mullet in that it is surrounded by cliffs, but there are also rock formations along the beach itself. Not a straighforward walk to the beach (go down steps to get to it) and when we were there, we were completely alone. There are no vendors, food, chairs, nothing. Just seclusion. Except that you can see Mullet from Cupecoy.

MAHO BEACH: We went to the beach directly across from the runway so I could snap pictures of the plane flying over my head, which is a little scary. Directly in the path of the runway, it looks as though the plane is going to glide right into you. Also a bit eery are the pieces of metal imbedded in the sand and among the rocks on the beach. I was terrified that something was going to fall on my head from the plane.

The Sunset Beach Bar is fun to watch the aircraft landing. You can park right in the lot of the hotel there (where the dolphin casino is) free of charge, but the timeshare salespeople will grab you first as you are driving in.

That's another thing about Divi. Not until our very last day did we get approached about buying a timeshare.

Some people were standing along the airport fence to feel the blast from the jets as planes took off. But being covered in fuel and sand was not appealing to me.

Maho is the flashiest part of SXM. Big casinos, nightclubs, strip clubs, etc.

And that's about it. My fiance is a workaholic who has not been on a non-working vacation in 10 years. He only called the office once, wanted to extend our vacation for another week and has been whining about being home ever since we got back. So you know SXM is a great place to go.

Thank you for listening.
