Daily Herald story

Is this going to hold up the money from Holland for the airport?

I believe local government is part of the problem.

Lesley--I was under the impression that it was very difficult to find someone to fill the position that the Dutch would approve. That is the reason why I thought it may delay the money.

Dec. 2022 ? that's almost 2 more years, I don't recall that it took that long to build it when replacing the little yellow shacks.
Do you think there may be bigger untold problems ahead ?

All that will take to totally derail and perhaps irrevocably damage the economy and infrastructure (such as the airport) is another large hurricane. God forbid.

The airport is functioning and as long as I can land and depart that is all that really matters.

It's already happening. It's called hurricane "SXM government".

I remember the old airport and it was not that bad, kind of what I expected for the Caribbean. As long as I can get through in a reasonable time, works for me - my experience in Jan was ok.

Ours in January was better than OK due in part to the Sunday arrival and Friday departures. It's amazing that it took us more than 30 years to learn that the airlines (no matter which one) cut you a break if you did not do the Saturday to Saturday travel. Yes, I know that we are giving up a day or two but with 3 weeks it is ok. I suppose that qualifies us for dullest tacks in the pack.

Now we are flexible to go whenever we want and the flight costs are insane no matter when. Starting to look at other islands or even the keys. Affordable but not SXM.

We did Sunday to Friday this last trip, and agree that it's ok if you have three weeks. We were actually able to get decent Saturday to Friday fares for our next visit; we always leave on Friday just to avoid the Saturday airport chaos, as well as the early checkout times for our timeshare.

We use to travel on Fridays, but with the problems people seem to
be having, we are leaving on Thursday this April.

Also the return flight on Friday was 3 times more than Thursday!!
