Appreciate help with rental car. The lowest I’m seeing is $30/day excluding taxes fees etc. for a Chevy Spark. Has anyone seen anything thing cheaper?
The type of car doesn’t matter.

Depends what the bottom line is with all taxes, fees etc. included along with time of year. I always go with Hertz SXM but others have their favorites too. All depends on your comfort level with the company you go with.

We usually pay around $550 for a two weeks rental. My only condition is that the car has a trunk.

I just paid $145/week for five weeks with Hertz. Their including liability in their quotes makes them cheaper than most others.

We all have our guy. But for me it's about service, after being shuttled back to the lot. Take care of the paperwork, dealing with traffic in our NYC winter cloths. I had it. I wanted a guy that takes care of all that with the car and the paperwork on sight! No more old beat up cars with old car problems. Someone, who when I contacted them, they returned my call or text/FB message with in a business day. We have been VERY happy with SAX rentals these last few trips!! The price is more than fair, newer cars, very clean! With GPS trackers, God forbid it gets stolen. Cindy and her husband Anil are so nice and provide great service!! https://www.saxcarrental.com/

December 24 - March 1. Looking around the various sites I think $30 is about the cheapest I’m going to get. But thanks for your suggestions.

IMO For that time frame you should be able to do better than $30/day.

That’s what I was hoping. Depends on supply and demand I guess.

That's dead high season and I think a lot of car rental guys have not replaced cars after Irma and Covid, so the supply is probably down. Don't know where you're staying, that you might have an option to not rent for a week or two?

Tim,

It’s no secret we use a Lesley Bruce aka Kenny’s Car Rental Agency and have for years. Needless to say, he takes very good care of us as he does all his clients and provides the service we look for. Unlike so many others, we don’t particularly want a bright new and shiny dingless dentless car to travel the island in but we do require a mechanically safe and sound vehicle which is what he always provides. We had the brand newbie car just once and we worried about it the entire trip, wanting to return it in as perfect condition as we got it.

If you’re planning on a continuous rental in that time frame I would seriously think you should be able to find a far better rate than you’re citing and if you’re talking selected dates in that time span, you will probably pay more since it is the height of the ‘high’ season.

And one last thought, I’ve heard good things about Horizon and others mentioned here but IMO, the rate you get will be dictated by the service levels you want and establishing a repeat customer status does help with the pricing aspect.

Good luck in your quest.

Respectfully,

pat

We have always used Kenny's Car Rental and it's always nice to see him when he meets us at the airport when we get our car. No bus, no hassle, sign a few papers and off we go.
