So I quickly scrolled through Facebook this morning and saw a photo captioned as a new property developed ON THE BEACH at Mullet near the 14 high rises. Didn’t really have time then to read the whole article and can’t seem to find it now. Does anyone on island now have information about it?
I guess those of us who regularly frequent that beach knew it had to happen sooner or later but I’m mostly concerned with the parking situation and the possibility they will try to privatize the beach area there. Ant info on this greatly appreciated……and TY in advance.

· Kalatua, Mullet Bay's latest beach bar, should be opening soon. This beach bar is developed by the Tower Fourteen developer and was supposed to be developed in addition to the restoration of the old board walk on Mullet Bay, but no progress has been seen on the latter as per today...
Taken from one of the posts. I don't know how to Copy Facebook posts to here.
Thanks, Terry. I hope someone living there has more details.
I do vaguely recall reading about the possibility of the Mullet boardwalk being rebuilt but never really thought too much about it until now. And I definitely didn’t think anything more would be built until the Ansary golf course debacle was resolved.

Here is a link to a thread I posted about this back in October. link
I don't know how much further this is down the beach, but I believe it is very close to the other end of Mullet, so one would think that they will have to have a separate parking lot for it, versus Rosie's area..
Thanks, Terry and Carol. I remember reading about this back then but I was surprised to see the photo this morning. Parking still has me concerned but I guess (hope?) they’ll figure it out.

Lesley--It's my impression that this place will be close to the opposite end of Mullet from where Rosie's is now, closer to Rainbow, etc. Is that correct??
Carol , way back right there was The Ocean Reef Restaurant and parking was made available plus there was a road that went through that part of the Golf Course from the main road.
The new beach bar is at the West End or the opposite end of Rosie's .
I have been following it for a few months here and took a picture a couple weeks ago. It will be called Kalatua. They erected a green construction fence around it for now. When I took this picture I lifted my cell phone above the fence. They say they will be opening soon but it is behind schedule. No real surprise there.
There is no evidence of a parking lot currently. There is dirt path over the golf course for the construction trucks and vehicles and they parked next to the current structure. But no evidence of a lot as yet.
Elaine--to me, that would be the only way they could control it, but that's a hike from the actual beach. Maybe they are planning shuttles from there to the restaurant? If so, only SXM politicians would approve such a hair-brained idea..
And like with many things the SXM politicians get involved in, it will be a lot of lip service and probably some personal financial consideration in exchange for the project.
It's a 3 minute walk to the new beach bar. Even now. there are many, many folks who walk to Mullet from Cupecoy across the golf course.. And my comment above was quite sarcastic. Rhine Road (the road that goes thru Mullet to the French border) is almost always so packed with cars it becomes a one way street. Very frustrating.
There is not a plot of land anywhere near Mullet that could be turned into a parking lot. Perhaps they will tear down Starz?????
Elaine ********************************* God Bless the broken road....
We golfed several times in January and the dirt road Dr Phill referred to runs between the 15th green and the 16th tee boxes. There is some room to provide at least a sidewalk back to the main road. There might also be room for some parking in the area. As for the golfers it’s not uncommon to have to walk from one green across a road or parking lot to the next tee box.
The old road through 15 and 16 is what took you to Little Ocean Reef and Building 90. Way back there was actually a security guard stationed at it. “Rumor” is there will be shuttles run from the parking lot at Starz. As Elaine stated the road is a disaster on weekends and holidays as it becomes a one lane road. So surprised they have allowed it to happen for so long.
During the past week, landscape workers have trimmed the bushes as the old Starz casino site, and picked up all the litter in the parking lot. It looks like preparatory work -- but preparation for what is anyone's guess.
Every marketing piece, put out by either the Developer or the realtors, lists the walk as being between 2 and 5 minutes from the 14 Towers to the "14 Beach Club / Kalatua Beach Restaurant". Seems pretty straightforward and I'm sure we will hear quite a bit more in the near future.
They are marketing it as both a beach club and a beach restaurant. Could be that the club is for residents of the towers and their guests and the restaurant is open to anyone. But who knows?
When Mullet bay Resort and Casino and The Towers at Mullet Bay was up and running we had “privileges” at the ocean front bars and restaurant. Free use of chairs and towels and charging privileges. I bet that’s what the owners will have at this new place.
Yes, but they can have a concession like any other licensed concession on any other public beach. They can provide chairs and services to their residents and follow that up with a Restaurant that can either be public or private. Rosie's is a concession on a Public Beach. They could also provide chairs to the public if they so wish to do so. Who knows? My main point is that they are stating that it is a 2-5 minute walk from the towers. Parking who knows but I'm sure we will find out in the future.
Kim, your idea wouldn't surprise me. Even the last few years, pre-Irma, The Towers at Mullet Bay had some chairs there, not far from the VolleyBall area, with a guy that would set them up for people staying at the Towers.
