$293 pp!! I have to say I can't even believe it's real - even after paying and getting confirmation! Granted, it's not direct - we connect through Atlanta, but that's ok! For years, I've subscribed to airfarewatchdog.com and can never seem to find the fares they advertise in their emails, but today when I got the $293 RT CLT/SXM via Delta email - I immediately began researching and with flexible dates, we were able to score the dates we wanted, only having to fly home one day earlier than we planned. Now, I just have to wait 9 months...

Bless you Bethy2120! Just booked our trip for next year and it is indeed good at that price. I looked up just the Atlanta to SXM part of the trip and it was over $600. Makes no sense.
We live halfway between Charlotte and Atlanta. Does anyone know if we can drive to Atlanta instead of Charlotte and just use the second part of the reservation?

What you have found is common--non-stop flights are more, even if the connecting flight is an additional flight on top of the non-stop!
With regard to just using the second part of the reservation, the answer is NO! If you don't make the first flight, the airline will consider you a no show and will cancel the reservation. Now technically you could get off the plane in Atlanta and not re-board for the last flight and there would be no repercussions, BUT I assume that would make no sense, as your car would be in Charlotte.

I don't think you can do it but I may be mistaken. Seems to me I remember reading if you don't board the first leg of your trip the rest automatically cancels?

Thanks Carol. That makes sense. We'll stick with the program and sing the praises of this board for pointing us to this great airfare.

Well, I don't know if it makes SENSE, as what airlines do often makes zero sense, but it is the current state of affairs.

Please forgive me for bumping up an old string but I just wanted to add a postscript to this.
We jumped on this rate last August (less than $300 RT next May). The only downside was that we had to give up a day and return on Friday rather than Saturday as usual.
Today I received an email from Delta saying they had cancelled the Friday return flight and telling us we had to return on Thursday. I called Delta and used all the charm and grace I could muster with a most understanding agent who rebooked us on the Saturday return flight for the same price!
I take back every bad thing I have ever said about Delta.

gln said: hi..good price but i prefer non-stop flights..to many possible delays when u land and take off before the final desination...it just cuts down on vacation time..anyway..enjoy Well yes, most people prefer non-stop flights, myself included - but the only NS flight from CLT is $642pp, so I can live with one connection in order to save $718! No brainer, IMO.
