Should we book our return ferry tickets prior to our trip or after we get to Tortola? Thanks

If you are travelling back on a weekend day, well in advance. In general, I would buy in advance for any ferry to guarantee a spot. Remember, ferries are still on restricted capacity due to Covid. About 75%.

Agree book in advance but not sure buying a ticket guarantees a spot. In the old days before pre booking people who bought tix were turned away once the boat filled..On my way down on Monday the Native Son was completly full..and yes I booked about three weeks ago and always one way so I am flexible on return.

Apparently the ferry passenger limits have just been lifted.

Governor Albert Bryan Jr. has issued a 38th Supplemental Executive Order modifying the “Open Doors Phase” of the COVID-19 pandemic to allow ferries and water taxis to resume carrying 100% of their capacity.

Did the BVI also lift restrictions?

The BVI never had capacity restrictions.

As I understand it, the capacity restrictions, and their subsequent lifting, has been through mutual agreement between the two governments.

Those 2 governments couldn’t agree on anything right now if their lives depended on it.

I can only refer to past press releases that cover this subject.

I have been schooled. The BVI did not have restrictions to lift. Will be interesting to see how/if/when schedules change.

Are masks still required and if so why? Public conveyances in the USA cannot demand masks.

Masks still required in the BVI inside if 3 feet separation can't be maintained. When was the last time you sat 3 feet from somone on the ferry.

As a public service notice, I recently caught COVID from an unmasked EMT in the USA and even triple vaxxed I was very sick (probably due to 6 prior weeks of radiation and chemotherapy). I just had follow-up oncology appointments this week and was reporting how severe my fatigue still is after 4 weeks of rest/recovery from treatment. All healthcare providers I spoke to this week confirmed the effects of COVID are keeping me from recovering as I should; and it will likely last for many months.

If you have underlying health issues, are elderly, or unvaccinated due yourself a favor and wear and mask and be thankful for those around you in masks who are likely protecting you. Also, consider those around you; 2 masked passengers are better than one.

If you don't like the rules in the BVI, please consider staying in the "Public conveyances in the USA". Offense intended!

It is well known that the masks most folks wear do not have any effect on covid. The most effective way to protect against covid is to maintain distance and time from other folks. There are also some supplements that are effective against covid like zinc

They wear KN-95 masks. Not so easy to get and not so easy to breath with. Also you need a new one each day.

The primary reason that we surgeons wear masks is traditionally it was thought to reduce infection as small droplets leave mouth when you are breathing and talking. Nasal as well. in other words, transmission TO patient from surgeon. Some studies showed no effect.

tpcook: Surgical masks are not N-95 or KN-95.

N-95/KN-95 masks are to filter out what is breathed in... They should be checked for fitness. These protect the person wearing the mask (and also the person in front of the person wearing the mask), even better than surgical masks.

Also, surgeons wear masks so they can stick their tongue out at the anesthesiologist;-)
