Tonight we dined at LaVilla in Grand Case. I had lobster thermidor, my wife had chicken. Both were excellent, as was the service.
Last night was one of our favorites, L’Atelier in Orient Village. Awesome steaks and awesome service, every time we visit! The crunchy poached egg appetizer is worth the visit by itself.
The night before last, we just picked up pizza at Oasis in Oyster Pond. It was good, but not exceptional.
Have had lunch at Friars Bay Beach Club the last three days. Different selections each day, all good, all way more than we can eat. My wife and I can’t decide whether the frozen rum runner is better than the rum punch. More comparisons are needed!
Tomorrow evening we will be celebrating our 47th anniversary at Bistro Caraibes. We already known that it will be wonderful.
Tuesday is our last night on the island, and we are undecided on where to eat. Any suggestions?
We enjoyed our meal last year at L'Auburge. Pascal sold the place to Chantal previously of Le Bistronome and we were happy to find that while several items from the previous restaurant were added to the menu a lot of great things remain from Pascale's menu.
Also, if you don't mind the drive, I suggest La Cigal in Sandy Ground. Gourmet foods in a waterfront (Lagoon) setting. I loved the lamb and the grand mariner soufflé . We went early and go to see the sunset (far right) and see Air France take off from across the lagoon.
FF--sounds like some lovely eating, although a fair drive each night from Oyster Pond? Other than the seaweed situation there, how have you liked the villa?
On our Nov and April trips we had excellent experiences ar the “new”E food was excellent and the service was also. Took friends in April and they really enjoyed it. It is on our hit list for this coming November.
I'll second RonDon's recommendation for L'Auberge.... we'd been there before, but also loved Le Bistronome, so booked it for our trip last year. Everything we had was wonderful! We sat on the porch and talked with the table beside us and really had a lovely evening. Chantal was as wonderful as ever. They were quite busy, which I was glad to see.
Carol, The villa itself is spectacular, however the property manager leaves a little to be desired. When we arrived, we had no hot water. Our first two showers were very cold. We arrived last Tuesday, but the dishwasher was broken. Just got it fixed today. When you pay the $$$ that this place costs, you (we) expect more.
I would raise holy h*ll about no hot water and no dishwasher?? Oh h*ll no!! No way either one of those things should happen in an upscale villa.
The villa over Happy Bay looks spectacular. Not nearly so upscale, but we stayed at Villa Canoa, on Mt. Choisy, and the views toward Anguilla were amazing. That area is SOOO convenient to Grand Case, about a five minute drive. There are several villas in that area. I think you will be very happy in that area.
I wouldn’t want to leave that view the whole time so I would hire a driver/chef just add and tell them to copy the restaurants like do it like Bistrot Caraibes or have a fast cabbie with pizza warmers deliver each course to the villa.
Reading your foodie report makes me homesick for all the times we stayed on the French side. There are a lot of good restaurants on the Dutch side, but hard to compare to the French side!! For such a spectacular villa, I would be really "twisted" about no hot water the first day!! I hope VRBO compensated you for that!! I would imagine ,they would NOT want a bad review on there page!!! God bless forty seven years!! Happy anniversary!!!
