No doubt a corroded landing gear trunk on which is a known inspect and repair item. Definitely negligent maintenance practice by Westjet IMHO.
I wouldn’t be flying that airline home

I can't imagine a settlement in 3 days. Why would WestJet pay in USD when it's Canadian? That's at least $14,000 in our dollars. Curious where that article is from?

Airlines often have "Go teams" to go out to pay pax off. My bro did this for a popular European carrier and was always on standby with a briefcase of $$$ if there was an accident. These are typically not in lieu of settlements nor does acceptance waive a right to future lawsuit,

I wouldn’t be flying that airline home "No doubt...definitely...?" That's pure speculation and armchair quarterbacking. Let's wait until the TSB report comes in. Maintenance mistakes can and do happen, but WestJet is Canada's second largest carrier. There have not been a spate of problems due to serious maintenance issues reported nor experienced, so any maintenance issues are obviously not widespread. I have been flying them to SXM every year for about the last 12 years, and will be doing so again in January.

It looks identical to other 737 gear failures. Known failure mode that has maintenance tasks to avoid. Either that or he was a former naval aviator that doesnt flare.
I’d say you got lucky all those years. Looks like WestJet almost landed on an SXM hotel in 2017 before they did a go around.

My friend worked for Circle Line NYC. When US Airways went into the Hudson river January 09. The insurance company made a deal for anyone on the plane, one shot deal, no lawyers. 250K each, take or leave it!!! The owner of Circle Line wanted to cash in on this deal stating we stopped operations to help with the rescue. My friend CFO thought that was a bad idea, since the phones were ringing off the hook for bookings. He was later fired for not putting in for the settlement!! SO!!! 10K isn't much in the thick of things!!!
Sand Gravity, got to love it!
