So just got back from a short stay in SXM. Stayed at Le Centr'Hotel in Marigot which was clean, functional and convenient. I had asked about the vibe of Marigot in the evening. While I was surprised at how quiet some parts got after 5pm, we had a lovely dinner at Le Belle Epoque, which I highly recommend. Marina Royale had a pleasant vibe in the evening with people strolling around checking out the restaurants. The next morning we had a lovely breakfast at La Croissanterie. Marigot seemed so much more lively during the day and I enjoyed my short stay. Thanks to the TTOLers who gave their two cents' worth. Also enjoyed my traditional visit to the Awarak Bar both in early evening and afteroon.

I agree Ian, even with the bad vibes that are sometimes reported, we still love breakfast at La Croissanterie, lunch (pizza!) at La Belle Epoque, dinner at Tropicana, etc. The marina still has a lot to offer and while we've never had a problem, others have. A little better security would help a lot.
I'm going where the weather suits my clothes.

Speaking of Marigot in the evening, I believe that "Thursday Nights at the Marina", the Marina being Marina Royale in Marigot,
started last night, January 22 and runs every Thursday night thru Thursday March 5.
They have special entertainment, music, extra Security, and of course all the restaurants are open along with most, if not all the shops. Worth checking it out.

RoryS said: You would think they could take a page of how Grand Case has helped with their crime problem. Of course, that's primarily the business owners who did that, but isn't there a police HQ located in the center of Marigot? More police presence would definitely be a deterrant. Marigot is more spread out though than GC which may be a problem, but more can probably be done. Marina Royal has had security for years, long before Grand Case.
