This trip report will be in two parts. Our first week (part 1)was spent on a Footloos Beneteau 352 with one other couple. (Second week, part 2 spent at a villa on Virgin Gorda) Sleeping quarters a little tight but other than that the boat is great. Departed Roadtown about 11 am on Sunday April 28. We took the provisioning option since we were just arriving the afternoon before, around 5 pm and we didn't want to take time on Sunday to provision, and we weren't sure what stores would be open. When we return in June we will definitely make time to provision ourselves. There are so many options for doing your own provisioning now days. Sailed to Marina Cay after stopping at Cooper Island and finding moorings already full. Picked up mooring ball at MC, dinked into Pussers for Caribs and Pinas then cooked dinner on the boat. Wanted to go over to the new Donavan's Reef on Scrub Island but just didn't get around to it.
Monday morning set out around 11:00 for The Dogs, enroute to North Sound. A squall was headed for us just as we were nearing The Dogs, so we decided to keep sailing and make our way to North Sound. Picked up a mooring ball at Saba Rock. Dinked in for Caribs and Pinas, looked around. Hadn't been to Saba Rock since the new resort was built. The people at Saba Rock were very nice and seem to be trying real hard. The service was great. Decided to not eat there, though. Went back to the boat for cocktails and dinner and afterwards, went back to Saba Rock for beers and to listen to live steel drum band.
Next am depart for Anegada after topping off our water and getting ice at Saba Rock. This was our first time to Anegada and arrived without too much trouble around 1:00. The entrance buoys seemed hard to spot at first, but now that we know exactly where they are it will be easier. After arriving, dinked over to Neptunes Treasure to make a reservation for dinner, but they are booked, as the Moorings flotilla is in and they are only taking reservations from Moorings flotilla boats. I think he said there were 18 boats in the flotilla. After having a couple of Caribs on Neptune's deck, dinked over to Anegada Reef Hotel to check things out. Decided to have dinner on our boat that night and do lobster the next night.
Tuesday am took taxi over to Cow Wreck Beach. Beautiful beach, only saw about a half dozen people all day. Had fritters and pinas and Caribs and just sat on the beautiful beach all day. Did a little snorkeling and made reservations for dinner that night. Headed back to Anegada Reef Hotel around 3:30 and over to our boat to clean up. Cow Wreck sent a taxi for us at 7:30(acutally a pick-up with benches in the back) Had a great grilled lobster dinner at Cow Wreck. Service and food were outstanding. After dinner back to Anegada Reef for drinks. Next am after some shopping at Anegada Reef, headed for Jost Van Dyke around 11:00. Almost out of beer.
Got into Little Harbor mid afternoon and snchored there. Dinked to Abe's for beer. (Anegada Reef Hotel has provisions, but they wanted to sell us the beer by the bottle. Something like $1.75 per bottle, so we drank gin and tonics all afternoon). Made reservations for dinner at Abe's. This is a first for us, we always eat at Sidney's, but thought we would try something new. Dinner was ok, but I don't remember what we had. Things were quiet in Little Harbor that night. Next am got up and motor sailed over to Great Harbor. Weather was a little squally. Went into Great Harbor, Christine's Bakery for oatmeal cookies, then walked around town, stopped at Foxy's and then back to boat and had a great sail over to Soper's Hole. Did some provisioning, ATM, lunch at Pussers, then off to The Bight. Great sail over to The Bight and picked up a mooring ball. Dinked in to check out Billy Bones and decided to have dinner at Willie T. Glad we did. Best chicken roti yet. Things were quiet at Willie T, no one doing body shots or jumping off the deck. Next morning we motored over to the caves and picked up a day mooring. Snorkeled the caves and then headed over to the Indians. Snorkled there, however it was a little rough. Had lunch then sailed out into the Caribbean a little ways before heading over to Peter Island for our last night. Anchored at Peter Island. It seemed so quiet and pristine after The Bight. Not too many boats. It was a great place to spend our last night. Swam and snorkled. It was sad. The week went by so quickly, but we new we had one more week on Virgin Gorda, so we had that to look forward to. We will be back in June with our daughters for a one week sail. Can't wait.
