We've planned a week on Anguilla next June. I'm looking for any personal recommendations for great restaurants, from anyone who is an "Anguilla Expert". Specifically looking for great dinner places. Thanks!

We are staying in a villa near Shoal Bay East.

Hmm, then you will need to rent a car. There are only a few restaurants open at night near Shoal Bay East, and I cannot advise on those as I stay on the West End.
If you don't mind driving, I can suggest several.

Great, glad to hear you will have a car. We stay for two weeks twice a year and go out for dinner each night.
Favorites are:
Mangos, Straw Hat, Ocean Echo, Dolce Vita, Barrel Stay, Trattoria Tramento and Jacala for high end. One place that gets rave reviews always is Veya, we no longer make it there as they have big steps and it is too hard for my DH to go up, but that should be on your list.
Pumphouse, Ripples, Roys, Ferryboat Inn, Tastys, E's Oven, Smokeys, On da Rocks, Sandbar for casual, we mix them up and never seem to have enough time.
We love DaVida for Tapas and music during the week, and Sunday afternoon for Omari Banks and his band Eleven, great ocean front setting with terrific food and service.

In the East End, Hibernia is a lovely option for a special dinner. I know it's not to everyone's taste, but the fish they serve is sublime, and there's an Asian/Fusion flair to the food. Excellent wine list also.

The Malliouhana restaurant is also wonderful!! Given the high prices in general on Anguilla, it's not that outrageous and I would choose to eat a couple of meals in and forego the moderate, mediocre fare at some of the more casual restaurants and splurge on dinner there. Lunch is also fantastic, and it's such a lovely setting. You can spend a morning on the beach at the base of the hotel and then have lunch.

Finally, the Best Buy supermarket on the way toward the East End and Shoal Bay, and Proctor's right in The Valley, offer delicious rotisserie chicken that you can pick up for a simple lunch or dinner at the villa, if you don't feel like cooking and don't feel like eating out. The quality of the veggies available for fresh salads is also fantastic. Roast chicken, a lovely green salad, and a bottle of Rose from Tropical Distributors (also near Best Buy), and you're good to go :~).

Thank you! Good to know about the grocery - we are planning to do our own breakfasts and perhaps one group meal at the Villa (two other couples are staying with us).

Ellen gave you a GREAT list that is for sure. She helped us a bunch when we went a couple years ago. Here is a link to our 2013 trip report.

Anguilla 2013 trip report

Enjoy you will love the island!

If you can fine tune your arrival to the end of May you will be their for Independence Day.

Blanchards Restaurant - they have a book about moving to Anguilla and opening up their restaurant. Very expensive but great. Just read their website and it looks like they opened up a lunch restaurant next door.

Since you are staying in a villa, you will want to do grocery shopping. Someone mentioned Best Buy - they have good prices, Proctors has the best produce, and Tropical Liquor has the best selection and prices on beer, wine and alcohol.

There is a bakery not far from Shoal Bay East Le Bon Pain, they get rave reviews for breads, sandwiches and croissants, have not tried them as we have a good one on the W.End - Gerauds.

I do not know him, but I have seen several people recommend him.

Be sure to carry cash, gas is cash only and many of the small stores only take cash, or, if the credit card machine is down you will need to pay cash.

Also ferrys only take cash.

Happy planning.

Ellen has lots of great advice! We stay on SBE and like Ellen says there isn't a lot open at night. We have been to Madeariman for dinner though. They are right on the beach. Perfect for watching the sunset! Usually we eat breakfast in but sometimes go over to Hank's. Food is good. We usually have lunch out at one of the beach bars. For dinner we usually cook in/or have leftovers from lunch. The food at Tasty's and Blanchard's Beach Shack has always been good! Sand gravity usually kicks in for us and we don't have much of a desire to venture out at night. I know there are a lot of great restaurants on the island and maybe someday we will check some of them out!

Not too far from Shoal Bay East in Island Harbor is Elite (Italian) and Falcons Nest - fish/lobster, plus Artisan Pizza, hand made Napolean pizza in an oven that was imported from Italy, along with other home made Italian food, they all get great reviews. On Da Rocks is in Island Harbor and they had $5.00 crayfish and $5.00 sides on Sat and Sundays, but they are closed now and have not heard if they are reopening.

I'd forgotten about Falcon's Nest! Really delicious, fresh fresh fish at super reasonable prices, and very warm and friendly owner/staff. The rum punch is pretty good, too :~).

It is near the pier to Scilly Cay - by Elite restaurant. They always get good reviews.
