I have an AA world Mastercard credit card The cdw benefit was not listed on the website. After a covoluted phone call I was advised that the cdw benefit was in fact on the card. I was also told some cards do not have this benefit. It would be wise to confirm that your card has this benefit before renting a car with it.

Without a doubt, verify it. It should be listed under "Benefits" or "Card Benefits" on the site. If it is not there, I would be leery and not take the word of a customer service agent over the phone.
With my Capital One Visa it is under "Auto Rental Insurance" andthat is under "Card Benefits".

We have the same card. The benefits on their website are under "Card Benefits", "Travel Protection & Benefits" then "Worldwide Car Rental Insurance"

You also should check which types of vehicles are or are not covered. My card specifically excludes vans and SUV's.
I'm going where the weather suits my clothes.

Correct, many do and excluded also are many "sports" cars.

Yes this is a great benefit and one to verify. These credit card threads can really be helpful for some. I learned the hard way that it is important to let your credit card company know about travel, especially international travel. My VISA card was cancelled on one trip to SXM, and that was the only card I had with me at the time. The only thing that saved me was a friend we traveled with who paid for everything until we got back home.
I now have multiple credit cards (ones with no fee for international transactions) and definitely notify them when I travel.

Many credit card companies now recommend that you DO NOT Inform them of your travel arrangements. They have discovered that in some cases it was employees who were using the information to their advantage. They have other reasons for not requiring you to do this now as well.

We had that exact experience a few years back, and for two years in a row having notified Citibank both years of our travels and having our cards hacked both times. It seemed too coincidental to me the second time it happened. Just sayin'.......
I no longer tell our cc companies specifics of our travels but there is a standing notification in our account history that we do travel to certain places, generally twice a year. That is true with Citibank, in particular. We notified them of travel plans and our credit card was hacked each time. Then for several years, we never notified them of travel plans, and the past two times, we had problems with our card being accepted on island, so who knows what to do?? <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Mad.gif" alt="" />

I agree, never had any problems with Capital One, 2/1 miles on all purchases. To say the clerk answering the phones is hacking credit cards is remarkably coincidental. I notify Capital One and my local bank (ATM) about out of country travel plans.

I agree; we use Capital One, and have never had a problem when notifying them of our travel. I place the alert online, and I doubt it even comes to anyone's attention until a transaction shows up.
As far as the banks telling you not to notify them, they're doing that for their own protection, not yours. You lose nothing if your credit card is hacked, they do. Yes, it's a pain in the tookus to close the card and get a new one, but financially, the banks take the loss, the cardholder does not.

Glad for this post because it led me to check the cc we use for our car rental on island.
I was surprised to learn that coverage is for a maximum of 15 day rental. We stay loner some years.

In the past, most cards were for a period of 30 days from what I recall. I just checked since you made the point and my VISA is 15 consecutive days coverage in the US and 31 consecutives days coverage outside the US.
My Discover Card provides coverage for 31 consecutive says anywhere in the world and up to 45 days IF it is a card issued by a business for business use.
Always good to read the fine print.
