I can't believe there are not more reports from Regatta... I think they are having too much fun!! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" /> Phone report on the Saturday morning, was the wind was a little lite to begin with but picked up. And heard rumors of parties! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/dine.gif" alt="" /> Like I said they are having way too much fun! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Yikes.gif" alt="" />

I can't believe there are not more reports from Regatta...the boats, the races, the party, the watch boats.
Is there enough wind today for the race? I can't believe there is so little information either. On the site there is news after the fact, little snippets, but no real schedule, except for the parties. We went to Boardwalk Friday night early & left early! Favorite was the kids' steel band! Wouldn't dream about going to Kim Sha & parking headache. Heard there is an Apres Sail Party tomorrow @ Royale Marina in Marigot. Maybe SXM Times or local newspapers offer more info. Too late now tho. We are @ Oyster Pond & have seen some sailboats going by each day. Not much talk on this board.

Hi, Sandy,
I read somewhere that even many of the FB adherents who actually live year round on the island are disappointed with the information available regarding this years regatta events, everything from times and places to winners and times and directions (none of which means very much to me) and after event venues as well.
We used to be on the island back in the early days and see the regatta boats from Mullet Beach and not even know what it was or that there was a regatta going on. We just assumed it was a great Sunday for taking the boat out... <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/duh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/duh.gif" alt="" />
Hope you're having a great visit....
Respectfully,

Really? Parties? I think you're pulling our collective leg. I would not know, working my little fingers to the bone this time of year, while they are partying!!! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Yikes.gif" alt="" /> Seems like there should be some kind of sympathy or something from "those people" but NO!! They are just having a good time and we are suffering!! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" /> Maybe!!!!!!!!!!! Sometime today i MIGHT get a phone report, but then maybe not with the party crowd!! But somebody has to go to the airport eventually --- oh maybe I shoud forget? <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/jester.gif" alt="" /> Let's see what are the options here??? <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/jester.gif" alt="" /> Ok, guess not! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/duh.gif" alt="" />

Sailboats, wind, parties and friends! Not as much wind today and I think many of the boats are already in or close to it. Watched the racing Friday and Sunday from Mullet Bay and Saturday on the Tango, a spectator boat.
Main party tonight at Kim Sha and the penthouse at Atrium!

Well, you have not heard the lastest from the phone report!!! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/jester.gif" alt="" /> More Race watching, Mullet, KLM arrival watching from Mullet, other meetings and parties!!! Something about Rosie Ribs!! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/dine.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/dine.gif" alt="" /> Started to break up at that point!!! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/jester.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/jester.gif" alt="" /> Now to beat all, another party on a balcony overlooking the Kim Shaw party with food and drinks and friends!!!! TONIGHT!! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Yikes.gif" alt="" /> That airport is getting farther and farther away!! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" /> Might take days to get there. Did I mention the food that they were fixing --- sliders, shrimp, cheese/Crackers, drinks, more drinks, etc?? <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/jester.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/jester.gif" alt="" /> And even Wendell did not get me the beer, he drank it himself!! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" />

With regards to race locations, I think they sent a tentative course but it is subject to change due to wind conditions. The Daily Herald usually has decent coverage but with no edition on Sunday it will be tomorrow before there is any printed coverage.
The local newspapers had a special Regatta section earlier in the week and there is also a Regatta magazine available at most resorts.
One of the local radio stations (Island 92?) has been doing pretty much live coverage. I listened to the coverage of a bridge opening while returning from Mullet Bay.

Hope you're having a great visit.... Hi Pat; Not bad, lots of grey cloud cover this year tho.! Regatta info. spotty even on their website; but we can see the races from Oyster Pond; just don't know who's racing, etc. Maybe it was just easier for us years ago when we had family on island to keep us informed & haul us out more! See you one of these years!

I race int he regatta every year... (My boat had those Crazy Canadian Morph Suits coming through the bridge each day! THE Captain Morgan even joined us one day after the race, for a ride into the lagoon!
For the most up to date info on the regatta each year, just drop by the St Maarten Yacht Club, located next to the bridge. Lots of volunteers to answer your questions.
Next year the regatta starts on the first Friday in March
Hope to see you all partying next year!
Capt. Russell

Here's a picture of Captain Morgan and the girls heading out to 10 Men: p.s. I'm a volunteer on the committee every year but I was on another start boat from your division. You guys anchored just upwind of Zanshin in the lagoon.
