We've found the same to be true.
USAir miles converted to AA but are basically worthless.
Credit cards are all over the place. Recently there was an article on internet that listed best 8 cc for excellent credit people. Especially with regard to travel.
I took their advice and got most bang for buck and cancelled my other credit cards. You may want to check it out.
