Vero Beach, Fl and South Sound...
Hello
Just got a message from the USVI Hurricane Service. Severe storm warning for USVI and BVI for a couple of days. Just checked the wind at my villa. Blowing solid 50 MPH and gusts to 60 MPH Lots of heavy rain. This storm extends from Florida to almost South America. Seas are expected to be 12 ft and more. Unusual! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/thumbsdown.gif" alt="" />

It is blowing hard in Sint Maarten/St. Martin as well (20-25 knots sustained). A little rain every now and then. Seas are 9-12 feet. Not a good time to cross the Anegada passage! The forecast predicts this will continue most of the week.

Very windy and rainy here out east. Lots of white caps and heavy seas on the way to Anegada. Lee Bay is very rough.

Fresh breeze here in the Bight at Norman Island. Annoying but not dangerous. Last few hours have been rain free but wind persists.

I just saw that NOAA extended the small craft advisory through Friday, and I'm wondering how big the seas are in the Straight as opposed to the open ocean. When they call for 5 to 7 with some up to 10, will that be true across all of the cruising grounds or do the island diminish wave height somewhat. We're arriving Thursday, heading out Friday and want to have a decent plan for the first day given the conditions. Thanks for any insight you can offer.

I believe it shifts from a north swell to an east swell on Friday. It will be a lil rough in the passages from the east but if forecast of 4-6 ft seas with occasional 8 ft is correct it should not be too bad for charter traffic..though 20 plus kt winds are still in forecast.

That is not consistent with the forecast today. Please be aware/careful. The Virgin Islands Tropic Weather station has a nice page on FB with some details of the forecast: Tropic Weather Station
