Spent the last week sailing the US and BVI. And it was honestly a way better experience than I imagined. I wrote up a summation of our experience and gave it to CYOA for posting on their recovery web page. I hope the administrators allow me to post a link to it here as there is nothing in the posting that promotes my own boat or CYOA - only a description of what was good and less good. Anyone considering chartering should consider a read. Sailing the Virgins Nov. 6-11

macaroni said: Thanks for the info...did you by any chance go up to top of the baths? Have not heard anything about it. One of our crew ran up there. He reported that it did not appear to be open for business and that there were workers fixing the deck. It looked to be in pretty good shape, i.e., could reasonably be open now or very soon. We were there at about 1:30 in the afternoon.

To go along with the pictures, here is a video clip from svdreammachine's facebook page of The Baths. Enjoy! I sure did. No boats at The Baths

Thanks for sharing! We we're planning on going down in December as our boat was supposed to be heading that way shortly, but unfortunately due to various unexpected issues she's going to remain in Newport for the winter. Hopefully we'll be able to get back down soon. Going to list the boat for sale and as soon as a sale happens we can plan our next trip! Anyone in New England looking to buy a 43' Beneteau?

Have to agree with Manpot: things are still very tough. Two of our neighbors have come back within the last few days. Both also have large boats. Reports were uniformly depressing: bad roads, no power, lots of rain and bugs. Finding materials and getting things done is very difficult. Best advice is always “Don’t come.”
We’re ignoring it and going down the first week of December. It’s tough, but we have to start somewhere. This was not how we planned to spend our retirement and savings. I’ve spoken with some neighbors who are throwing in the towel and selling their damaged property. No one is optimistic.
Sailors will be able to enjoy deserted spots. But the nice spots that were developed may now be eyesores. And everyone will need to be self-sufficient. Just refueling will be much more difficult, so better hoist those sails!
