We're booked on "LIBERTY", a 2017 50ft FP Saba for 10 nights beginning 4/9/18 out of BVIYC. If you're out on her right now, please bring her back safely! Don't worry about any left-over rum. We are happy to empty those bottles for you! What I would really like to know is if anyone has previous experience on a Saba 50, will you please post with any information that you think would be helpful. Any tips, problems, thoughts, likes, dislikes, recommendations, suggestions.... We will be 5 adult couples and one adult single. Planning a counterclockwise trip, including 2 night on Anegada after two nights at Leverick, weather cooperating. Some rambling: We're counting down the days till our arrival in Road Town on 4/9/18! We originally planned this trip almost 2-1/2 years ago for our second bareboat charter with BVIYC which was supposed to happen beginning 11/15/17. Irma destroyed our plans as it did many others, which was nothing compared to the loss of the locals. Six of eleven of our original crew backed out on us immediately after the news of Irma. The other five of us are return "pirate-wanna-be's" to the BVI. Obviously the six that bailed didn't know what they would be missing! Once word was out that we were back on, we quickly filled our cabins with great friends. To our amazement, BVIYC quickly picked up the pieces, and then bent over backwards to reschedule us for this upcoming trip. I just can't say enough good things about how Cassie & Abbie handled things for us. I know there are many others there who worked hard to recover, but C & A are who we dealt with for our first charter a few years ago, and now with this one. I have read many other awesome stories about other local charter companies, but I just can't imagine using another unless for some reason BVIYC just couldn't accommodate me.

I am watching this thread with great curiosity. We are chartering a Saba 50 from Horizon at the beginning of May so I too would like to hear all about the boat. I have questions about the kitchen, how well the fridge/freezer works and how large they are as I am provisioning for 8 people for 10 nights. My husband; on the other hand, would like to know the technical/sailing side of things, so whatever info comes will be helpful. Luckily we had nobody bail after the hurricanes, even with 4 newbies on board. So far, every time we bring newbies we have them hooked, hopefully that will happen again this year! I really look forward to your trip report Shannon. Only 25 days until we are back in Nanny Cay!

Thanks for the details windward2c. I figured that the fridge/freezer situation would be adequate but it is good to hear first hand. Fingers crossed this Saba 50 has an electric main halyard winch. We do have some strong backs in our crew if we need to jump it though. I will also mention to my husband to watch the main head. We chose it because of the space for our large crew so I am glad to hear that you loved all of the outdoor lounging areas. Thanks!

We were supposed to be on the Tennessee Waltz in November and were surprised to see it back in charter so soon. The owners were able to identify her in one of the many photo's circulating around on the internet showing the wreckage soon after Irma. Hard to assess damage from a photo but she looked to have faired much better than a lot of boats around her. I'm happy to see that she is back in the fleet. The Saba 50, Liberty, does have two electric winches at the helm. Im pretty sure Tennessee Waltz did too.
Only two days till we head down!
--------- edit: Just saw this great news update onTennessee Waltz Facebook page. Looks like they got her a new mast and she is ready to sail!
Sail Away on the Tennessee Waltz- a Saba 50 Catamaran in the BVI March 23 at 12:38pm · Road Town, British Virgin Islands ·
And....great news!
The Tennessee Waltz is once again a sailing vessel!!
