sidneys was also hit hard. They lost the roof several years ago and they lost it again. A photo I saw had the JVD ferry upside down on the dock. In another photo it looked like Harris's was gone. The houses up where the Hendricks family (sidneys) looked like it was hit hard. We love the Hendrick and hope they are all well.

I am a little concerned in all the rebuilding that the islands are loosing a lot of their funkiness.

I am a little concerned in all the rebuilding that the islands are loosing a lot of their funkiness. The islands are not losing their "funkiness"! To me "funkiness" is a vibe, and that vibe is still there. Do things look new, yes, they do, when you are wiped clean to nothing you have to rebuild. This rebuild is hard work, and I am totally proud of each and every family, business, establishment on all of the islands, and what they have been able to accomplish Post Irma.

I don't think that there is any danger of losing funkiness! We just spent a great week afloat... some of the bars/restaurants are new but built the same way as they were before, and some are built differently! Places like Soggy and Cooper are great still as they have been for years (rebuild notwithstanding)... Ivans in White Bay, in some ways, is back to how it was 5 years ago! Places like Pirates is new, but then it was new before. Willy T is new - but the vibe is the same... didn't get to Anegada this time but I guarantee those places have lost nothing! Didn't see any 100+ MPH speedboats flying through anchorages but maybe we didn't get to those places I think the islands are doing a terrific job pulling themselves up by their bootstraps and getting back online as best they know how. All the people I met were appreciative of the business and were happy to see us. The vibe is great. Long may it continue.

The Funkiness might be a “Vibe” but that vibe has gone from local sailing sloops to 100+MPH speed boats flying through the anchorages.. The big money has already taken over and soon the small harbors will be off limits to anything but mega yachts. Not my experience when we were down three weeks ago. Didn't see one 100+MPH speed boat.
