Mal--If it were ME, I'd get my butt to STT and then back in the US, ASAP. Based on what is happening in St. Maarten, where they are probably closing all bars and restaurants, both sides of the island, as of today, and AA is suspending ALL flights in and out of SXM through May 6, who knows what will happen there..

For anyone still planning on travelling, Puerto Rico airports are still open as of last night. See attached photo. Additionally, at this time no BVI bars, restaurants or hotels have closed.

Rumors have it BVI schools may be closing, however. And I would not be surprised at all to see some BVI resorts/restaurants closing in the next couple weeks.

Mal,
You should check with someone more knowledgeable
about taxes (that would be anybody), but I think the government
is waiving penalties for late filing.

Eric prepares taxes and as of NOW, there is no waiver of penalties for late filing of taxes. But that should be the least of anyone's worries.

I was advised by a friend who lives on Roatan that effective this afternoon the island is on 'lockdown' and no one will be allowed entry on the island for the next two weeks (initially). He doesn't know of any current cases of COVID-19 on the island, this apparently is to stop the tourist traffic until the situation settles down. I suspect the decisions are fluid (good word) at this time, but thinking it might be an indicator for other tourist destinations?

Family and I were scheduled to fly to Roatan today for a week. Thankfully decided to heed the warnings from our Federal government and Cancel our trip. Sure glade we did.

Now I have to decided what to do about our May 2nd trip with DYC. Our last payment for the boat is due this week. I am concerned that an event like this could be catastrophic for the charter industry. Not sure is I deposit the remaining balance if there will be ability to get back if things are shut down for 8 - 12 weeks.

As of this point I completely expect our trip May 2nd to be postponed..... This event is the definition of force Majeure. Still may end up losing the deposit...

Getting real everyone stay safe and healthy.

By way of update, Horizon has come through with a very generous postponement arrangement. I am very grateful to them as these are indeed difficult times all around.

Inter Island Boat posted to Facebook this morning that arriving folks by sea can ONLY clear-in to the British Virgin Islands at West End or Road Town. No Jost Van Dyke, Virgin Gorda, or Anegada.

I ended up delaying my April 24 charter with Sunsail. I was able to reschedule it to the end of June without penalty. Hopefully this situation is resolved by then.

I really didn't want to reschedule, but I wasn't about to risk being put in quarantine and losing all my money.

I see today Trump has asked the IRS to move tax filing deadline to July 15th and to waive any interest and fees for late payment.

No official word from the Treasury Dept yet, we were hoping for that today. If and when they do everyone seems to be expecting June or July 15. But Mal, this is specific to you/other CA filers;

Mnuchin's press conf this morning would have been a great time to announce any extended filing dates but that didn't happen. They did announce individuals can defer payments penalty & interest free for 90 days if owing $1,000,000 or less, but not many additional details on that either.
