Looking for any bgi stopover must do. we will be arriving fri night and staying til mon before island hopping.

staying between oistens and st lawrence gap. how close are these two? how far from bridgetown by bus? which is must see beach for turtles nearby? which beach do you recommend for lazy swimming day and a beachbar?

night 1 - oisten's fish fry and early to bed after 24hrs in transition
day 2 - bridgetown by bus and st lawrence gap at night. anything in between we should do/see?
sunday day 3 - beach day, swim with the turtles or ??? any night time must do?

we leave mon first thing with liat (no problems so far with liat, does this mean i'm doomed? lololol)

any help for my first visit to bgi is appreciated.

ps i know it's not enough time but alas there is never enough time to cram every wish in.

St. Lawrence Gap is only about 10-15 minutes from Oistens and another 20 minutes by bus to Bridgetown. There is a little beach just past the gap on the way to Bridgetown called Sandy Beach. I have seen turtles there and there is a nice bar called "The Carib" with a great happy hour. Just further along is Bert's Bar owned by the owner of the Ottawa Senators if you need a hockey fix. The bar is kind of dull though. Further along is Rockley beach, which is the best beach along there. There are a number of little bars all clustered together there and another one at the far end of the beach. You could ask the lifeguards about turtles. Yes! there are actual lifeguards! There is also Brownes Beach just before Bridgetown, which is big with a number of bars and popular with the cruisers.

Have fun. We are taking your advice and heading to Jolly Harbour in January.

I have only been to Barbados on a cruise. We hired a driver and said "Show us the parts of your home that will make us want to come back." She took us to some of the historic churches and to Bathsheba on the east coast. I would love to go back there. Wild and removed from the hustle bustle of the west coast. Beautiful island!

GrahamJ has been quite informative but just a little update.

The Carib Beach Bar is currently closed and under new ownership, they have been bought over by the popular Tapas Restaurant owners and they are promising a new and improved "Carib Lounge". Though there is a possibility that the refurbishment maybe completed by your visit (not started yet) you could supplement this with Crystal Waters Beach Bar...a stones throw away. Crystal Waters is a VERY laid back beach bar with live music and great barbacue on Sundays (1:00 pm onward) https://www.facebook.com/pages/Crystal-Waters-Guest-House-Bar/291554090856736

Most of the time you will find turtles here in this sheltered lagoon as the local fisher folk feed them daily.

I know your schedule is hetic for the limited time here, but PLEASE take a trip over to the East Coast (Bathsheba), you can get a bus from Bridgetown (1 hour in each direction / US $1.00 per person each way).

Even if you do not stay there, just take the round trip (buses usually stay at the turn-around point for about 10-15 minutes to collect locals) and most of all take your camera...you will be blown away by the beauty of our east coast.

Hope this little bit of info helps and welcome to our beautiful island...in advance

great information. love the links.

East Coast is now on my sun day trip schedule. thanks for the pointer. is there a beach bar/town/event we should stop at for a refresher on sun? surely we will be hyper and want to explore some of it's beauty. prefer no big crowds but some activity like a farmer's market or live band/bbq. do the buses run on sun? we won't be in any hurry.

thx again

ps are there must buy items? RHUM of course.

I'm thinking Anguilla is a little too tame for someone whose screen name is 'Crazy'.

Hi again, yes the buses run on Sunday but the schedule may not be as frequent. Unfortunately on the east coast there are no farmers markets etc, however there are two restaurants within walking distance in opposite directions to the turn around point at Soup Bowl.

Round Hose Restaurant (5 minutes walk each way)- http://www.roundhousebarbados.com/

Atlantis Hotel (12 minutes walk each way) - http://www.atlantishotelbarbados.com/

My preference would be Round House, mainly because of the scenery overlooking high performance surfing at soup bowl which usually has some massive waves in November (associated with cold fronts coming off of the US) and their more laid back atmosphere.

Please remember Crystal Waters for the late Sunday afternoon/evening live DJ's..Mr. Impact - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_xhdCgN_kNg and local entertainer Andy Ingram .

Hi there funny you asked about a trip report… we don’t really write trip reports because like you ,we do a lot of crazy/local things and a lot of people would not believe or may frown up us for doing what we do. I grew up in Trinidad and we’ve been to most of the islands in the Caribbean and we usually hang out with the locals and eat a lot of the local foods. We stay out late go to local night spots, bars etc. . We spent a lot of time in the GAP and at Fish Fry we were there for almost 2 weeks this was our second trip to Barbados we are regulars to St Maarten. We will be in St Maarten/St Barths for NYE this year.
