We had a nice dinner last night while listening to a Spanish guitar player Alfredo Musika, not the Alfredo we were looking for. We'll find the Alfredo were looking for today at the Sunday Jazz session at Rendez Vous lounge. For dinner I just had a cheeseburger with fries, both very good. My wife kicked it up a bit with a vegetable fried rice, pineapple salsa with grilled shrimp served in a half grilled pineapple. Must have been good there was just a shell of the pineapple left.

Looks like a big burger. Fries look like they need to be fried a bit more.

Hamburgers to us seem to be the same and pretty basic at the beach bars. We did have some good taco's. I overheard and noticed another customer showing a social media post to a staff member . Does anyone know it they are offering a discount if you show them a good social media posting? I see more places actively trying to get them. If so...I love everyplace on sxm smile And what is the policy on the service charge?? I have read in the past 20% to 15% which I know some people don't tip and then I read nothing added.

The Dinghy's Beach Bar does not add a S/C so we tip 20%. But in the past week we have noticed that a lot of places do. It's your call then on what to do, if the service and the food is good we tip on top of the S/C. I wish the gov't would step in and ban this practice. As for social media discount we haven't heard about that, but have been asked to give a good review on Trip Advisor on occasion to which I reply I only post on TTOL.

Whale Tail--have any of the places who added service charge, added 20%, or has it been 15?

Yeah, I don't like that deal, of businesses basically paying for good reviews. So dishonest.

Carol- Haven't seen 20% yet, 15% seems to be the gouging rate.

OK. I'm ok with that, I guess. I pay that and move on, even though I would normally tip 20%. Glad Dinghy's apparently figured out they can't get away with a different policy for every person.

Carol,

Being one who first posted back in November about the mandatory twenty percent add-on, I’m happy to see they straightened that out. Depending on the quality of service I’m more than happy to tip twenty percent but I hate having it mandated and particularly if the food or service doesn’t merit it.

We enjoyed our dinners at this restaurant and the only issue we had was the twenty percent add-on and the explanation we were given on two different occasions. Our dinners were very enjoyable and we’ve always enjoyed that location for beach days

I know we’ll head back there in April. My only wish is they might start serving a full breakfast menu! 😉😉.

Respectfully,

pat

Personally I don't mind that much if they add a 15% Service charge cause I know on the island they get a lot of tourist from around the world that just don't tip. But as in the USA the staff depends on the tip since the hourly rate is so little. But for sure a busy restaurant or bar server can make very good tip money. I think most of the restaurant owners don't want to add the service charge but the staff mostly the local staff would scream if they did not. Gov would never get involved ...those are voters. But don't always believe it if your server says they don't get the SC money. Service Charge is the tip in my book and the staff tries to say otherwise. Discounting for reviews is another can of worms that has become more obvious by same good reviewer or mention over and over every other day same place. just odd. they should knock it off. IMO

". Discounting for reviews is another can of worms that has become more obvious by same good reviewer or mention over and over every other day same place."
I see that happening on some Facebook sites. A constant mention of some establishments that reciprocate to the owner. 😉

Well I see the same people posting amazing stories and pics almost daily that its does become very suspicious reviews and it seems to be the case with this place too. just go back through and see who's getting reviewed all the time. Not saying they are not good and if the site manager allows it fine with me I can ignore. basically free advertising by someone associated or very friendly. I don't really believe any review I read good or bad until I try it myself. It's a struggle these days in business so I guess every trick in the book goes to some.

Seriously, if that is aimed at ME, you are very misinformed. Dinghy's is a new place and therefore there is a lot of chatter about them. But if you have paid attention to all the posts about them, there have been MANY bad posts here, talking about their tipping policy. And a lot of those posts have been by me.

SO, will close this one here.
