Good Morning
Cooper Island Beach Club would like to clarify an incident that occurred yesterday in the mooring field as there are assumptions, rumours or speculations being shared.
There was an incident yesterday between two boats over a first come first serve mooring ball. This did not happen on CIBC property, docks or involve any of our staff. We did try to de-escalate the situation but since both parties involved were not budging and we saw the potential escalation of the incident, we contacted the Marine Police who came to resolve the matter.
We hope that this was an isolated incident and in the many years here, I have never had to deal with such a situation. We hold to our policy that if there is a potential violent incident, the police are contacted.
The parties here have been reminded of the Boaty Ball rules. We have also been in contact with Boaty Ball to add additional rules to their website. Please keep a look out for the update so everyone can continue having fun. Happy Sailing.

Looking forward to some kind of update here. Feels like issues around Cooper Island mooring balls have been brewing for years.

The update is some of the local skippers are calling the guys who haul trash and deliver ice in the anchorages and having them put red trash bags or a paddle board on FCFS balls. A crewed charter boat took one of those balls at Cooper and when the other bareboat with a local skipper onboard showed up he demanded they leave. They refused citing first come first serve and the other boat proceeded to try and tie up to their boat and the skipper threatened to beat the other skipper. The police were called.

I'm confused. I've been reliably informed that if only all charterers hired a skipper, everything in the BVI would be utopia henceforth? What a world...

Please lord go back to FCFS! The BVI government new taxes on USVI charterboats has forced a large number of crewed boats to relocate in the BVI. Pressure on crewed boats to provide an experience is leading to poor behavior on the part of a few bad actors.
