Necker is private unless you are willing to ante up $30k+/night, then it all yours.

There's plenty of beautiful beaches in the VI to visit, let the people who spent the money for the privacy of an island enjoy it.

I hope you realize that not all the "sandy area" you see on a beach is actually public. The public access area of a beach is only a narrow strip of land between the water's edge and a line known as the " Average High Water Mark". On any given day that line is about 4' to 6' above the water's edge.

The water between Necker, Bitter End & Mosquito can be pretty skinny but doable. You will NOT be welcome on the Necker beaches. Even if you anchor close by you will most likely met by staff

If you insist on visiting Necker, please use Gumptions tours. http://www.seaitcleartours.com/#!necker-tour/c7wo. If you visit during high tide as others have stated above there is no "public" beach to stand on.

Can I be so bold to ask why?

What is the draw to Necker with so many other places to go?

Is there something special about this place that the 100s of islands that surround it do not offer?

Visiting the island uninvited would be like the movie "Dr No"

I guess there is always the "you won't believe where we got kicked out of on vacation" aspect. But I don't know why or how that is enjoyable.

If you like beaches here is an idea for you. A few years ago we spent a week at a house at Leverick Bay and rented a Boston Whaler which we took out to Anegada. That might be a much better option (weather permitting) than trying to tip toe around the edge Necker.

We went into a small bay at one of the resorts on VG. On the way in a boat met us and let us look around because I told them we were thinking of staying there sometime. I certainly didn't feel welcome. Although you may well be within your rights to stay below the Mean High Water Mark I don't think you'll have a pleasant experience at Necker.

Life involves risks, take some prudent ones (NOT with the BVI ferries)!

A word to the wise. On some islands marked private. You may have every legal right to move along the tidal range on paper. You may be greeted warmly and politely by staff. Maybe by the guest's or even owner's private security detail. The one do not want to meet is a security canine who is trained to look for people who are not supposed to be there and look like they are sneaking in by boat. I have not witnessed the dogs of Necker. There are security dogs in other places in the BVI and across the caribbean. More than one explorer has jumped into the sea from Guana thinking no one would notice a couple of hikers.

We were fortunate to go a few weeks ago to visit with Gumption. Gumption and Necker staff was very kind and gracious. Got to see the tortoise(s) plural, turtles, flamingos and hold the lemurs. Once in a lifetime experience we will never forget. Sir Branson was with his family and we were able to meet him. That said, we had strict instructions of no pictures of people, security is everywhere, and no social media and we signed papers attesting to that. Landscape and animal pics only and they are serious. They feel and we agree that if you are paying 30,000 daily rate you are entitled to privacy and they ensure it. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" />

I don't like to be told what to do or say, but when you know there's a place that's advertised as private (owned) island
Why would anyone want to go there just so they can say I have the RIGHT to be there and destroy someone or a family who dreamed and paid for that experience.

Any comments I might make may rightly be construed political.

Truly, when you travel, go there lightly and respect that you are a guest everywhere you travel.

Hey, I'm part owner in some Maine shorefront. A B&B close to that particular property decided that since we are not in residence 12 months of the year, our property was fair game for their guests whenever we were not in residence. That translates through some staff turnover as < sure, just walk down that lane across the road and ignore the sign that says PRIVATE PROPERTY... no one is there right now.>

A little respect works wonders. Please and May I.

You are welcome to dock at Scrub and go to one of the restaurants there. You can also take their private launch from Trellis Bay.

Day visitors used to be able to use the pool and other facilities too, but I have heard that is no longer the case.

Felix

We went to necker with gumption on Saturday. It was a very interesting tour, unlike the typical vacation excursion. The lemurs were the best thing EVER! I will do a trip report when we get home.

Our cocktail hour discussion revolved around the island and it was agreed that there are as good as and better beaches throughout the BVIs. However, my son thought the trampoline was amazing.
