They had a website but it was "under construction" every time I checked it. Still appears to be that way. El Zafiro

We've enjoyed days with drinks and lunches at El Zafiro but in checking out Norms photos, I'm wondering if the breakfasts shown were from there, too. Personally speaking, I'd rather go out for breakfast than for lunch so that would be a real treat if we could do breakfast on the beach, too. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" />

Norm, thank you once again and Laurel, I wish it was that close to us. Enjoy, my friend, enjoy - whatever meal you opt for. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" />

Just one persons opinion but if you're a big fan of Karakter as we know it today, you probably won't be as wild about El Z.
It's much more laid back and the seating is more spacial but the chairs and umbrellas are similar, or at least was to what Karakter offered the last time we were there, about a year ago. It doesn't draw as many people which quite truthfully is what we enjoy most about it. The music tends to be way calmer and quieter than that which we last experienced at Karakter.
Take a look at the photo earlier in this thread of the bar which is to the rear center of the main dining area. I think food is such an objective thing - so many rave over the lolos and I can't stand them. I have a few favorite places I've recommended and others go and are often disappointed. The best thing to do is try it and draw your own conclusions.
I think the service is good but not annoying or intrusive. Again, it's all about your own personal preferences. We were there the other day and had Cesare Salads with freshly prepared seasoned sauteed shrimp and they were delicious. DH had a pulled pork sandwich served on a baguette with sweet potato fries and he said it, too, was yummy. Prices, IMHO, are fairly comparable to the other beach places. The breakfast menu was typical as was the extent of the lunch choices, or at least I thought so. There were several Creole style choices but that is not something I particularly enjoy.
It's way up-scale from Rosies on Mullet and well below Dreams and Anse Marcel Beach Resort. And yet, each one of these is delicious, but each in its own way.....all good - all different! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" />

I agree with Pat; the chairs have become much too close together at Karakter, although I do still love the food there. Fortunately for us, there are enough days in our vacation to enjoy both places a couple of times. When we were last at El Zafiro, their kitchen wasn't fully operational, so I'm excited to experience their full menu. We always found the service to be excellent.
