Jason, we are doing the same dance in SJU that BVIslandGirl describes, coming into SJU on one airline (Jet Blue in our case) and then jumping on a separate booking for InterCaribbean. The difference is, we will only have a scheduled layover of just under 2 hours in SJU (one hour 50 minutes). Assuming no flight delays, think that's enough time to collect bags and get checked into InterCaribbean? Thanks for the advice!
That is cutting it pretty close. Many of the airlines there require you to check bags at least 60 minutes prior. It’s going to take you 20 to 30 minutes to collect your bags and another 10 minutes to get to the check in counter. It is likely however that JetBlue might be early or Intercaribbean late. The gotcha is that if you don’t make the flight and the later flights are full you could get stuck. This assumes they will allow you as a goodwill gesture to use the tickets on a later flight. G
