Is it me or are ticket prices to St. Thomas unusually high? I am flying out of Washington, DC to St. Thomas July 3rd to 11th. I was seeing ticket prices at $250 (Spirit Airlines) in early December for this travel date, now they are $382 at best. Was wondering if I should ride it out a little longer or just purchase at this price. Maybe my expectations for a good price were to high. Worse than play the stockmarket.

Any advise would be appreciated.

Thanks

Prices are high because the airlines are flying limited flights into STT post hurricane thus they are all full. I would not wait. Flights from CLT to STT next week are over $1000.

382 is a bargain. Grab the flights. 250 per ticket was a absolute steal!

Is that round trip? That is a great price. We paid less this year then we ever have. We got Detroit to St. Thomas, round trip, in April for $330. Last year we paid $631.00

What George said! There are probably 80% fewer seats in and out of STT from mainland USA to STT compared to a year ago.

I just paid $615cdn, about $500 us, for my flight in May from Montreal to St Thomas with a connection in Miami. I consider this to be a decent price. I’ll have to check to see how it compares to the price of my ticket last May which was partially paid by points but I don’t believe the base price was much different.

Be sure and read all of the fine print before you fly Spirit. I've read that they have some very odd extras that they hit you with and the price winds up not being cheaper than the main airlines.

Spirit has ALWAYS added lots of stuff that they don't charge you for, on other airlines. That really is not the biggest problem with them. Not sure what their schedule is for St Thomas, but for St. Maarten, they only fly once a week. If that flight is cancelled, you're in big trouble, as they don't cooperate with other airlines, so you could be stuck for a few days. And their seats are the tightest ones I've even flown in, by far!

Last August, I bought round trip on American, JFK to STT, for July 4 - 12. The fare was $385 then. If the fares are still hovering there, then grab them.

My daughter had a flight from STT back to FLL in November. She was ticketed for flight around 2.00. On the trip in from Maho she goes to check herself in since that was the first time she had a data connection. During that process she learned that her flight was now leaving at 10 something. She calls the airline. They tell her if she doesn't like the change they will give her money back. She tells them she doesn't want her money back - she wants a seat out of STT and she's not sure she can make the 10 flight. Too bad - if she doesn't make the flight and has not agreed to the refund right then on the phone she will be charged a change fee and an airfare change fee and ... by the way... the next available seat out of STT was for several days in the future. She then asks them why she had not been told of the change sooner. They told her that they couldn't get in touch with her. Well that's odd she tell them 'cause I've been receiving email "offers" all week from you.

Luckily we had left Maho at first light. Instead of refueling and getting the boat into the slip at CYOA we picked up a mooring and got her off to the airport. Once we got into CA, Spirit had once again changed the departure time - this time to 11:00. In telling this story to natives that morning we were told that Spirit pulls the switharoo schedule scheme all the time leaving passengers behind and screwing them on the change fees - part of their business model perhaps.

The daughter did make the flight. And it was cheap. But I would gladly have given her some money to cover the difference to fly a "real" airline to avoid the stress.

Life's short - sail more!

Yeah, it's round trip $388. I looked at Spirit and they originally had $300 with fees in December, but wife advised against it because of their reputation. Spirit defineatly puts the nickle in "nickle and dime". They list tickets at $200 then tack on carry on baggage fees etc.. that push prive up above $70-100 there advertise cost.

Makes some of the nonsense we endure on other airlines seem trivial.

Watch the new comedy, LA to Vegas and it sounds like Spirit! The last episode Jackpot Airlines added credit card swipes that passengers had to use for seat recline, open the bathroom door, open the overhead bin AFTER they put carry ons in and closed, and for using the air vent to name just a few! smile

We just got a great deal on tickets from BWI to San Juan, direct. The non-stop tickets from IAD to St. Thomas were gone, and everything else had really long travel times. We also booked Air Sunshine to Virgin Gorda. Those flights were filling up fast as well. It has been years since we've been able to find a decent non-stop flight to St. Thomas from the DC area.
