Trip Report: 3/17-4/5

Flights: United 267, first class, out of Newark, flight took off early and arrived early, breezed thru immigration, bags came right out, picked up rental car at Thrifty and we were on our way. Return United 299, same as coming down, went smoothly.
Resort: Divi in our unit for 3 weeks. We usually only stay for 2 weeks, but a friend had asked us to stay one extra week, as he thought it might be his last time going(age/health issues). Unfortunately he did not make it, as he passed away in January. We plan to spread his ashes here next year, as was his wish. Only issue was that internet would not connect to our room (cable issue going to building, still from last year) was able to connect to other rooms. Now though, when you sign up for Internet access, the screen asks you if you want to add more devices, I did, it was $5.00 more for 2 devices for the 3 weeks, total bill was roughly $115.Grounds and beach in good shape and the resort staff (bartenders, waiters/waitresses, front desk, etc ) were all friendly and helpful as usual.

Daily: Up early (around 5:45), set up beach chairs/umbrella’s, then out for run or gym workout, back to room around 8:00 for breakfast with wife on back patio. Hung out at Little Bay Beach all day, suits our needs just fine, with the beach/pool bar’s and condo right at hand.

Dinners: Toucan’s Café(Divi), The Palm’s, Belle Epoque, Gizmo’s Beach Bar(Divi), Fusion, Bistro Nu, Mark’s Place, Izi, Chesterfield’s, Auberge Gourmande(Harmony Nights), Gizmo’s, La Cigale , Belle Epoque, Chesterfield’s, Izi, Bayview Café(Divi), Bistro Nu, Lee’s Roadside Grill, and our traditional last night dinner, Mario’s Bistro, (that was the night the French Bridge was hit by the catamaran, took a bit to get there, as the Gendarmes had the road closed at the roundabout leaving Marigot. He let us thru and after some creative driving, we were able to make to the restaurant on time. Had a lot of empty tables that night and even Didier hadn’t made it in yet, when we left around 8:45).

Shopping: Left the beach early a couple of times to shop in Philipsburg & Marigot, then dinner there. The Murano Glass shop at the marina is closing soon. They are in the process of leaving St. Martin and moving to Los Angeles, will miss Paolo & Veronica and their great store. Grande Marche for staples at the condo.

Overall: This is about our 43rd trip to SXM. Traffic was never a problem during the 3 weeks. Did not see or have any crime issues. We did have a couple days with rain, but the Island is dry and could use more. We had 3 great weeks, planning our next trip…..Mike & Rose.
