OFFICIAL STATEMENT
Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU)
Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport informs that, in accordance with a security order issued by the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the airspace covering Puerto Rico has been temporarily restricted for U.S. airlines.
This measure is due to air safety considerations related to military activity in Venezuela and is not associated with any situation at the airport nor directly related to Puerto Rico.
As a result of this federal directive:
• Most commercial flights to and from Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport operated by U.S. airlines are suspended or may be temporarily canceled.
• Foreign airlines and military aircraft are not included in this restriction, in accordance with FAA authorizations.
• The measure has an initial duration of approximately 24 hours, subject to review and possible extensions by federal authorities.
Passengers are encouraged to check directly with their airline for the status of their flight before traveling to the airport and to stay informed only through official channels.
Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport remains in constant communication with federal aviation authorities and will continue to provide timely updates as official information becomes available.

I wonder about the safety of cruise ships out there if someone decides to retaliate. It looks like the whole Caribbean airspace has been pretty much shut down with folks stuck everywhere. Apart from the scary ramifications of all this its just what we needed after Irma and Covid..

I would not want to be in STT today. Our plane is stuck in STT along with the pilot. It was supposed to fly to Virgin Gorda, pick up passengers and fly to Ft Pierce and then to Nashville. Just another day in Paradise.

After a lovely, very quiet day - only a few WinAir and InterCaribbean flights - restrictions are lifted. Can't imagine the chaos at the airports today.

Feel for everyone affected by this..most of all the people of Venezuala. My pals at The Sugar Mill hardly got off the phone all day with folks cancelling, wanting their $ back etc. I cant imagine the airports messes today..glad I'm here til next month..just hope he doesnt start another war by then.

An American Eagle flight presumably heading for EIS just flew east over the north shore..good news..( about 9.30 am BVi Time)

We took off from Virgin Gorda at 9 am, but we're going to Miami since all the folks who were coming to the villa can't get there and have decided to stay near the Miami area.

We were supposed to fly in to STT from NYC yesterday. Woke up at 5am to the flight cancellation notice from 5 minutes earlier. Still had not seen the news, so rushed to book a different flight. Found one! And rushed to airport. Still not seeing news. Got to airport, checked in. Got to gate, finally news reached me. We pretty much saw the writing on the wall and decided to just rebook for Monday to be safe- and avoid what must be a crazy day today.. So we did. And went home. We were able to adjust our charter to keep it same length. Now, we fly out tomorrow AM. Fingers crossed. Best wishes to all affected.

Lots of airlines are adding extra sections today so everyone should be able to get down or back. Check with your airline.

Carol- I appreciate your position and policy that this site should be safe from political commentary. That said, comments that address the impact of political actions on travel planning is a reality for those of us who are traveling to the region.
Thanks for continuing to provide a forum for invaluable information to those of us traveling to the region.
