We were down this September for a week. The weather was ideal, cooler than June last year. The wind was more southerly, sometimes from due south. The BVIs were mostly closed. We had a great time at Leverick Bay for Thursday pizza night. There were probably 35 people, including staff, at the Trellis Bay FMP. We really enjoyed it. We sailed from Leverick to St. John one day, with plenty of time to check in at Cruz Bay - we saw one other sail the whole day. We did hear that Willy T was open for lunch as we sailed past. St. John was hopping in comparison. I'd do it again and include Culebra.

Cheers, RickG

It will be HOT for certain - it is definitely OFF season so most anchorages will be quiet. You may run into some rain -- but you kind of always do down there anyway. It can be risky planning during hurricane season -- but you could get lucky!

There are definitely places that will be closed for the season -- but some will stay open - Pretty sure Soggy Dollar stays open, Leverick Bay can be a stop but the upstairs restaurant will close, I think Saba Rock closes, I think the Willy T stays open - not sure about Pirates on Norman but maybe that too is open - I'm sure others can weigh in here who've been down there at that time.

Some people really enjoy the quiet.

Ah - see? I was wrong about the weather! And it IS hot in June - that much I can vouch for. We were down in early August one year and it was pretty hot then too!

Yep, Soggy Dollar was open this past September and there were people about. Rudy's grocery was open until 5PM, but nothing else. We were the only boat in Great Harbor the night we were there. We sailed from Great Harbor to Trellis with a lunch stop at Guana Island. There were a few boats in Cane Garden Bay, but we did not stop. De Loose Mongoose was open in Trellis. Scrub Island appeared open.

Cheers, RickG

We stayed on Jost Van Dyke two years ago at Hide Away Villa in September. The weather was perfect. Very little activity on the east end of Jost. Foxy's Taboo was closed, B-Line wasn't yet open. We had the bubble pool all to ourselves if you don't count the dog that tagged along with us. We did eat at Abe's (twice) and Sidney's (2). They were the mainly the only two places open. We ventured with the jeep down to Soggy Dollar several days to hang out. Did parts of the spine of the island, what a view. Rudy's was open to get a nice steak for cooking on the grill at the villa. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/dine.gif" alt="" />

We would do it again it a heartbeat.

Hot with a chance of a tropical system. Did September/October twice and both were huge rain events including a hurricane. Others have had great results. I have moved my schedule to early December. Low rates, less crowded and great weather.

September can be a roll of the dice on weather. But, we have had many great Septembers in the BVI.
The water is still very warm and you have the place to yourself.
Yes, much is closed but enough is open to have an enjoyable trip.
If you enjoy quiet solitude in paradise, September is a great month.

I would be more inclined to risk the weather in September if I was on a boat with a genny and AC. Being on a humid closed up boat without AC in the rain is miserable.

Yup - if we don't go elsewhere in 2016, it will most likely be late October/early November for us.
