Looking for a little help. I'm looking at chartering a 38 foot lagoon from Brent named Lom Dee. Anyone have any experience with chartering her? Any suggestions, thoughts or overall experiences with Brent? His prices are great and I like the idea of working with a smaller outfit, more personal.

I have also been looking at a 38' from Barecat as well. Any help would be great!

Thanks all

Mike

I had a great experience with Captains Compass. My friends and I chartered a 38 foot cat from him a few years ago and the entire process was a breeze (Timeless Passage - which is no longer listed on his site). Brent is a laid back guy, but is as serious as a heartache about his fleet - and it shows in his briefing. His fleet is a bit older but certainly well maintained. We had an engine problem and Brent resolved the issue very quickly - even bought us lunch while he fixed it. We saw Lom Dee when we began our charter, she was in the slip next to us, we were disappointed that we weren't chartering her, she appeared to be in great shape.
Besides the great price and Brent's professionalism, another great thing about chartering through him is that there isn't adverting on the boat or sail like other charter companies have - so the boat doesn't scream - "I'm a renter" (there is a name for us renters, but I can't think of it). Anyway, as long as your not looking for luxury, you will NOT be disappointed. Good luck, I'm jealous.

I haven't been on Lom Dee, but have rented from Brent, in fact I will be back again in 52 days.

Brent does a great job, we have chartered from several others but for the money, we go with Brent.

He is straight and to the point, the boats are clean and well maintained and he gives a great chart briefing.

I have chartered with Brent in the past. Twice on Time ,Passage. We were so impressed with Brent and his company that we now have our Leopard 42 in his fleet. I can speak first hand that he keeps his fleet in top shape. I've seen Dom Lee for a few years now knowing the care he gives our Island Fun you can count on Dom Lee will be a great sail.

Thank you all for the positive feedback. I've had a few bad experiences with small charter companies so it is good to hear that he is really into it, not just slinging boats from his dock.

Jagmansr, we are deciding between your 42 and the 38 with Brent. Just trying to see what fits us best. Your 42 is a great looking boat.

How far from nanny cay is his operation? Could he pick us up from nanny cay and take us over to his location?

Any other bits of advice/info about captains compass is much appreciated.

Thanks again everyone.

Mike

Jagmansr, you have two boats in a fleet? Wow. The economics must be very favorable.

Mike, Sea Cow Bay is about a mile from Nanny, head towards town. Almost an easy walk.

We only have Island Fun the 42 leopard. Prior to buying her we chartered Timeless Passage from Brent. We got to know Brent as one of his customers

We chartered Island fun the 42 leopard in February and our 1st charter with Captains compass. I agree with all that reefgirl said above. Brent is very professional and provides good customer service and was very accommodating with our late arrival to the marina. I will have to say in the 20 years that we have chartered in BVI ,, he provided the most thorough boat checkout & chart briefing I have had since chartering. The boats are older but well maintained and updated. We look forward to chartering from him again
