Hello All,

Looking for a little help.

My wife and I, along with another couple, will be sailing a Bavaria 46 out of BVIYC and will sleep aboard the first night. It is a Friday (1/8/16). My wife and I arrive early enough to catch the mid day RTFF while the other couple will catch the last ferry at 430pm.

Our question is this, my thought was to take them (BVI Virgins) to Banannakeet for sunset dinner and cocktails with Ruben. Do you think we will have enough time for them to come to Port Purcell and drop off their bags before jumping in a taxi? Or, should we perhaps have them clear customs in Soper's Hole and meet them there and just lug around their stuff? I'd hate to spend the $$$ to get there and miss the sunset.

Another question in completely the opposite direction.....I have seen advertisements for Friday night "Moon Parties" weekly on the beach in Trellis. Any thoughts or comments? Should we skip the rush to the sunset and just head to Trellis instead?

Or, is there something else going on on Tortola that we dont know about on Friday nights? Not really interested in doing the Road Town usual.....especially now that C&F is no longer what it once was.

Much appreciated. Looking forward to my third visit.

Keith

I think you will be hard pressed to make it to bananakeet before sunset. If bananakeet is not to busy maybe everyone can be flexible. Email bananakeet and see if they can store their bags. Lastly your friends ferry could easily arrive late. Then they will arrive after sunset for sure.

I think I would skip Bananakeet for that particular night. I would also skip Trellis on the first night and make it part of your itinerary.

I know you said you aren't really interested in Road Town ... but ... your friends may be pretty tired after a long trip and may not want to travel very far for dinner.

There's a new restaurant in Road Town on Main Street (where the old Roti Palace used to be) called "Fantasia". It's owned by Georgio from the old Georgio's Table on Virgin Gorda. He has moved over here to Tortola and it's supposed to be terrific.

Let your friends drop off their bags at BVIYC and maybe take a shower. Then grab a taxi to Fantasia.

Karen (who was the bartender at The Clubhouse Restaurant on Frenchman's Cay) works at Fantasia now, so you can be assured of friendly service.

After dinner, walk down the street to Origin (opposite the ferry terminal) on Waterfront Drive and take them up to the bar on the roof for after dinner drinks. There are great views of Road Harbour from up there.

While I personally love Bananakeet, I think I agree with Liane here--travelling is no FUN anymore and the first night, I personally am just in the mood for something easy and and cheap and relatively uncomplicated. I would save a lovely dining experience at Bananakeet for another night, when you're not dead tired and when you can plan your day to actually be able to enjoy the sunset.

I agree with the rest.
By the time I get to the hotel on travel day I don't want to travel another yard.
A beer and a plate of nachos at the bar would be lovely, thx.

Not every minute in the BVI needs to be flash /bang WHOOPEEEE.

If they arrive late, after jousting with airlines, then ferries, a simple soup and sandwich and a brew or two and show us where we are supposed to stow our stuff and crash would be the order of my day.

Like the others, if we were the ones arriving on the late ferry I would want to keep it simple. Dragging bags around could be a pain. You will have several great sunsets once you're underway. Either way, have a great trip!

Perhaps I should have prefaced my question with we are all 40yrs old and have relatively easy flights and connections. Maybe I should have asked whats happening on Tortola on Friday nights.

The Elmtones are great and even without listening to their gig Cane Garden Bay is worth a visit.
