I know many of you guys don't like Emeril, so hate to use an Emeril saying, but I wonder how many of you guys have what Emeril calls a 'boat motor'?? You know, the blender thing you put in the pot, as opposed to putting things in the regular blender. What is the real name of it?? Anyway, I don't have one, and several recipes I have seen posted lately, it seems that one would come in handy. Thoughts?

C, they are Immersion blenders. Can be useful.

I believe they are called immersion blenders. I know Cuisinart, Braun, and Kitchenaid all make them. I like mine, but you do have to be careful about the blade.

We have had the Kitchen-Aid for about ten years now... It gets lots of use... Very powerful and came with a mini-food processor attachment... Before that we had Brauns, a few of them, but got tired of them getting tired...

One of those would probably be slightly larger than I need--and more expensive!

Ah!! Interesting!! Our local Chamber of Commerce is probably going to do some food for a Labor Day deal, and we were thinking about chili dogs, but didn't want to deal with the beans in the premade chili in the can. And don't tell us to make it from scratch, as no one wants to get that ambitious. Do you put beans in the chili for hotdogs??? How would it turn out if we used the boat motor on chili with beans in it??
Oh, and BTW, it arrived today!! Will have to try it out probably tomorrow for something..

Thanks, annie! I hate beans myself, so good to know I can just puree them and I won't even notice!

annie said: Carol, one of my sons loves my chili but hates beans. So what I did for him was I took some of the beans out and pureed them and then put them and some of the rest of the chili in another pot for him. He loved it and never knew the difference. Personally I think you just have to have the flavor of the beans in the chili! HeeHee... our grandaugter, Kali, loves steak, and will not eat anything else except chicken... so when Jimmy makes Pork Chops, he just tells her it's steak, and she eats it right down... My father says he hates any recipe with vinegar... so we just don't tell him it's in there... and he always says... fantastic...

Just an FYI... AMAZON.COM has the KitchenAid KHB300 Hand Blender on sale now for $89.99 (list $129.99)... I have had this one for about 8 years now, and use it almost weekly... Has all the attachments, including the propeller, whisk (I rarely use this attachment) & mini food processor bowl & blade (holds about a qt., they call it a nut chopper)... It's very strong with a variable speed settings (0-10)... ABS plastic & stainless steel...

dseltzer said: The one we have at work weighs about 20 lbs and you just put it in a five gallon bucket of something and it will puree in seconds (great for fresh tomtoes). We also use it to make five gallons of salad dressing at a time. Very convienient. Looks like a jack hammer made by Robot Coupe.
