This is typical, and folks who visit the island regularly know about it and are not duped. You won't make the mistake again, and the lesson learned was relatively inexpensive!

Last December, we were on the boardwalk in Philipsburg when we were approached by a young lady who asked us if we were on a ship or were staying on the island. When we told her we were staying here, she began the pitch. I interrupted her, telling her that we already had a place. (normally I say, "I live here", but for some reason didn't use that line this time). Her rude response was, "Of course you do; I didn't think you were sleeping on the street." I just shook my head and walked away.
