Wow! That was scary. Thank God it ended up okay.

Here is a youtube video of the ATC audio. The pilot of DL 300 from SXM was clearly the one at fault

Interesting to hear the dialogue. Glad nothing serious happened.

I was gonna ask if anyone on the plane even knew what was up. Not likely.

The Passengers on the flight taking off must has been stunned though. Rejected takeoffs are amazing to be on once clear of danger. Imagine hitting your car brakes at 55mph but on the aircraft your hitting the brakes at over 100 mph. Startling if you don’t know what’s going on.

I wonder, if the pilots on DL 300 do a same day turn around or not? Sure the NTSB will look at fatigue as a factor.

I know from my step-daughter (F/A at Air Can) that trips to the Caribbean usually do not include a layover; they are a turn.
So using our upcoming flight to St Kitts as an example:
We depart at 0925; crew report time at least 1 hr earlier, say 825.
Arrive at St Kitts 1515 (ontime assumption)
DEP St Kitts > Toronto: 1600 5 hr 10 mins flying
ARR: Toronto 2010
Sure we all think that flying is easy but that folks is a lonnnnngggg almost 12 hour day.
And remember the crews do not get paid if the door is open so of that 12 hours they get paid for about 10. If there are any ground delays on either leg that is unpaid time.

After every Monday and Tuesday even the calendar says WTF.

The last AA flight in to SXM from MIA used to be a layover to become the first AA flight out of SXM. I used to take that flight all the time back to MIA but it's no longer after Irma.

Stuff happens but runway incursions are a big deal. Clearly the DL300 crew was in error. The tower controller didnt help by adding the “whats your gate” question to a runway hold short. She could have let that unnecessary question to the ground controller who would have gotten them after crossing the runways.

The delta boy, unless the radio didnt pick up their transmission, may have fibbed a bit to the controller. That wont go good at FAA or ATL.
