We are going down to the islands in January and I thought it would be fun to rent a car on Virgin Gorda. I have read some of the threads on here and the places to stop, but how are the roads on Virgin Gorda? We always rent a car on Tortola and Anegada and can handle the roads and traffic there. I'm assuming it will be fine but I need to convince our captain that this will be a fun new adventure for us! 6 of the 9 crew are newbies so letting them see The Baths would be a highlight. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Driving on Virgin Gorda is a dream compared to Tortola. I'd get a mini safari bus from L&S.

I think Speedy's still rents cars, too. Many years ago we rented a jeep from him, and the throttle linkage came apart on "The Mountain." We scrounged up a piece of wire from along side the road and made a temporary fix -- enough to get back to the rental yard. The guy there looked for 45 minutes for just the right nut and bolt to fit the linkage, to no avail. He then wiggled our wire fix job, and the conversation went:
"Is that your only problem, Mon?"
"yes."
"Then you have no problem, Mon!"
Whereupon he slammed down the hood and off we went. Wouldn't be surprised if that Jeep is still running, the wire is still there...

Renting a car on VG is the best way to go. With the size of your crew a safari bus is idea, BUT make sure somebody can drive a manual transmission on steep roads!

By the way, the Maltese Falcon is sailing towards Virgin Gorda right now.

Reminds me to mention that I found the best bargain in the BVI last month. Speedy's round trip Road Town to VG senior rate is $20 but if you rent a car from Speedy when you get to Spanish Town you get a $20 discount. Free ferry ride!
