I was wondering if anyone had any experience with cell phone reception for AT&T or Verizon while in the BVI. Was thinking of using data roaming to stay connected with texts or cellphone calls.[size:14pt][/size]

We were there in mid-June and had no problems with AT&T using the International Day Plan.

We've used the ATT international roaming option on the past few trips. Works great and I have connectivity in most places. You pay $10/day for each day you access the network in the BVI. You use your normal plan, i.e., if you have unlimited data you still have unlimited data. Verizon has a similar plan.

You surely don't want to use data roaming without one of these plans. That will be very expensive!

We have ATT and can typically get on their direct network from Norman, West End, and JVD as well as in the USVI. ATT has a plan where for $10 a day you get data usage and unlimited texts (on the local network) with the minutes taken from your subscribed plan at no extra cost. Phone calls can be pricey though if you are going through the local carrier (Flow, CCT, Digicell). Be sure to sign up for this before you go as if not, the data charges can be quite a surprise when you get back and see your bill.

I use this frequently for international (and island) travel with no issues.

Can you receive ATT signal on VG?

No.
But if you sign up for the international plan you will be accessing the local BVI providers like Digicell. And those do have signal on VG.

You might want to set the provider you use while there. For instance, when in the western part of the BVI your device might switch between cell towers in the BVI and the USVI. While in the western part you can easily access the USVI towers so you will save the roaming charge if you set you device manually to a cell serve rather that depending on the auto select . For me it was a big deal because I am from Canada and US roaming is only $7 a day while international roaming is $12. It adds up so I saved some bucks by using AT&T and Wi-Fi as much as I could and only used international roaming while in North Sound and Anegada

Never had a problem with Verizon. Current coverage map shows 3G most everywhere but Anegada, which shows Voice and Text only. $10 a day gives you your normal plan limits.
