Hello, this is going to be our First time to the BVI and I hear mixed reviews on Anegada! Some love it and Some don’t care for it! If you have been there can you tell me some good and bad? Some say it’s not worth the trip.

Absolutely, 100% worth the trip. Beaches on the north side are amazing, great beach bars and unmatched lobster dinners. For a first timer, getting there can elevate the pucker factor and it does take time to get to and from there.

Definitely worth going but try to spend 2 nights. It's a long sail which will eat up most of your day and not give you enough daylight for a decent visit to the north side. There are a bunch of restaurants and while opinions vary, I don't think you can go wrong whichever one you choose.

Totally agree on the two(or three) nights..this island is a rare gem to be enjoyed at a casual pace..its far different than any other Virgins ( 28 feet about sea level)and that may turn some folks off/...island rules..book your restaurant with meal choices before 4 .We all have our favorities ..for me favorite beach Cow Wreck..restaurants, Wonky Dog, Sids and the Lobster Trap ( owned by the Anegada Beach Club folks..great food there too).Rent your car from Dean..

Love Anegada! Get an early start from VG and you can have a snorkel at Flash of Beauty or visit Loblolly and Big Bamboo (both are good for lunch). Cow Wreck or Tipsy is a lovely spot. There are good restaurants for dinner. We always rent a truck (preferred) or Mokes. The entrance to the mooring field is well marked (at least last year).

I agree it's a bucket-list type of destination. You can take pride in extra effort it takes to get there (and back) and it's just a different feel. I'm not sure I agree that you should spend two nights there. We had planned on that but we got there early enough, rented a Moke and drove to the North side, did the bars and Loblolly, and then dinner at Wonky Dog (I think). Not sure what else we would have done the next day but I know you can do the Conch Island tour.

The anchor/mooring field is shallow. Don't stray too far out side the field (in a mono anyway). Ask me how I know...

We are at Anegada now. We rented a car for 2 days to get around.Dinner at Lobster Trap last night was excellent. ABC no longer offers a free shuttle from Lobster Trap to ABC. Ride up from North Sound yesterday was pretty sporty, 25-30 knots.

Not sure how it is now, but back in the day an early arrival gave you prime moorings so that you could watch late arrivals fighting over the last mooring ball. Oh how I miss those days…

I kind of agree with this. Guess it just depends on your perspective, how many times you've been, your total charter duration, and whether you tend to be a morning person on charter or prefer to sleep in. We've done two nights on Anegada most trips, but I'm thinking this time just one since we're doing just a 7 day charter. If we're off the ball by 8 from NS, we can be at Cow Wreck or Flash of Beauty by noon, call in our dinner order to Lobster Trap from there, hit ABC and the other Cow Wreck/FOB depending on whim for the afternoon, and still feel like we had plenty of time to relax at each spot and get back to the boat for a shower before dinner.

On the other hand, if it's your first trip or two and/or you really like to take your time, two nights on Anegada can be fantastic.

I will say, if seeing the Flamingo's is important to you, I haven't quite perfected that yet, it's been very hit or miss in our experience. We're going with a little one next time that absolutely LOVES flamingos. On advice on best way to make sure she sees them? I've heard dawn or dusk are the best times to see them?

Right now, the flamingo flock ("flamboyance") is pretty much staying where they are not publicly visible. There have been a few stragglers this past week in the pond on the north side just past the Anegada Beach Club.

We saw a few flamingos last week from the elevated lookout. One flew by us in the Saba Rock mooring field as well. That was a real treat to see!

For those that suggest 2 nights what do you recommend other than of course a lobster dinner? We are on 7 night chartered catamaran over the Holidays. We want to experience the Soggy Dollar NYE party but we also want to relax on beaches and have some chill time. My understanding is that Anegada has some amazing beaches. Do those that stay 2 nights do so because it is so far out or is it because it is so beautiful? Or both?

For a 1st time trip, I recommend leaving Anegada off the list, there is so much else to see and places to go and enjoy. The last thing you want to do is become stressed out trying to see it all. Save Anegada for the next time, because there WILL be a next time!

We regularly stay 2 nights and spend one day on the far beaches (Flash of Beauty, Cow Wreck/Tipsy, ABC or Loblolly et.al.) and one at Setting Point but we usually go for 8-10 days. If I am going for 7 days i might do one day or even skip it. I would say both to Sarah and agree with Latadjust as there is way too much to see and hopefully you will be back. we have seen most everything after so many years of going down and still enjoy Anegada the most. I always say the first time you go for the place and after that you go for the people....

Definitely go to Anegada, unless the sea state is too rough. Spend a full day at Tipsy's and tell her Chip Fuller said hello! Also be sure to take your group out to Shell Island and do some snorkeling.
