Well I might as well add my favorite SXM story...
When I was checking into my place at La Vista I returned to my rental car and couldn't get the damn thing started. One local man walked up and tried to help me up with little success. Then another local riding by on his bicycle, hair up like a true rasta man, came over, opened the hood, checked the air filter, and checked God knows what else. These patient men, who I had never met, and in all honesty probably would not have even acknowledged, worked on the car for 20 minutes before I borrowed one of their phones to call Mickey....
Ends up I forgot about the kill switch in the glove box! Thinking they would have been pissed that they wasted their time with a dumb tourist, instead they stood there and laughed with me.....I'll never forget that.
While I detest the crime, the traffic and the overbuilding that have begun to plague the island, I KNOW the people are the best thing going for SXM.
Hope to be back in 2007 for the 14th time.
